Real world: public transport in Germany

Germany has excellent public transport: the DB (Deutsche Bahn) runs trains nationally, cities have U-Bahn, S-Bahn, and Straßenbahn. You'll hear announcements like: „Der Zug nach München fährt auf Gleis 5 ein." (The train to Munich is arriving at platform 5.) „Achtung! Der Zug hat 10 Minuten Verspätung." (Attention! The train is 10 minutes late.) Buying tickets: „Eine Fahrkarte nach Berlin, bitte." (A ticket to Berlin, please.)

Real world: asking for directions and travel information

When travelling in German-speaking countries: „Wie komme ich zum Bahnhof?" (How do I get to the station?) „Nehmen Sie die U-Bahn Linie 3 bis Hauptbahnhof." (Take the U-Bahn line 3 to the main station.) „Muss ich umsteigen?" (Do I need to change?) „Ja, am Hauptbahnhof steigen Sie um." (Yes, change at the main station.)
