Tip When giving directions, German uses the Sie imperative for polite commands: „Nehmen Sie die erste Straße links." (Take the first street on the left.) Or the du imperative informally: „Nimm die erste Straße links." The separable verb abbiegen splits in a sentence: „Biegen Sie rechts ab." (Turn right.)
