Position in Sentence

Adverbs of manner usually come:

  1. After the verb: She danced gracefully.
  2. After the object: He spoke the words clearly.
  3. Before the verb (for emphasis): She carefully placed the glass.

Do not place between verb and object:
❌ She danced gracefully the tango.
✅ She danced the tango gracefully.

Real world: sports commentary

She quickly passed the ball to her teammate, who accurately placed it in the top corner. The goalkeeper desperately tried to reach it but could not move fast enough.

Real world: recipe instructions

Gently fold the egg whites into the mixture. Slowly stir until the batter is completely smooth. Bake the cake carefully — open the oven door quietly to avoid it sinking.

Real world: formal letter of complaint

Tip Adverbs of manner are everywhere in English: in sports commentary ("she skillfully controlled the ball"), recipes ("gently stir"), news reports ("the suspect quickly fled"), and feedback ("you explained this clearly and concisely"). They make descriptions vivid and precise.
