Why Does Order Matter?
In English, adjectives must follow a specific order before a noun. The order feels natural to native speakers, and reversing it sounds very odd.
✓ a beautiful small old round blue Italian ceramic coffee cup ✗ a coffee ceramic Italian blue round old small beautiful cup

Placing multiple adjectives correctly
- a lovely (1) big (2) old (3) black (5) cat — correct
- a steel (7) sharp (1) new (3) Chinese (6) knife — should be: a sharp new Chinese steel knife
In everyday speech, we rarely use more than two or three adjectives. The full order is mostly useful for understanding why something sounds right or wrong.
